The Hermit’s Journal
Field notes, lore fragments, and dispatches from the edge of the wood
The Forest Remembers
There is a place where the pines grow so close together that sunlight becomes rumor. I found it again last week — or it found me. The path had changed, as paths in Ephesia tend to do, but the clearing was where it always was. Waiting.

I set a silver coin at the base of the oldest tree. Not as payment. As acknowledgment. The forest doesn’t trade — it witnesses. And what it witnesses, it keeps.
If you’ve been walking the trails near the eastern ridge, you may have noticed the stones have shifted. Three of them now point toward the lake. I didn’t move them. Neither did the wind.
Some of you have written to ask about the next hunt. I’ll say only this: the Lady has been restless. When she stirs, the water tells.
On the Nature of Gifts
A gift is not a gift if you understand it immediately. That’s just information wearing a bow. A true gift confuses you first, sits with you second, and only reveals itself when you’ve stopped trying to unwrap it.

I’ve been thinking about this because of something Auctor said — or rather, something he scratched into the margin of a page I wasn’t meant to read. He wrote: “The hermit’s gift is the hermit’s curse is the hermit’s gift.”
Circular. Infuriating. Exactly like him.
But he’s right, in the way that broken clocks are right — not because of precision, but because eventually the world rotates back to meet them.
The treasure chest grows. The silver waits. And the gift remains what it has always been: yours to find, if you’re willing to be found first.
Three Coins at the Threshold
Hunter report: three silver tokens recovered from the northern cache. Two remain hidden. The coordinates have shifted — Ephesia breathes, and when it breathes, the map changes.

To those who found them: you know what to do. The cabin is open. The Sisters are listening.
To those still searching: the moon was new when they were placed. Consider what that means. Consider what sees best in darkness.
The Bitcoin chest has grown again. I won’t say by how much — the weight of it is part of the mystery. But I will say this: it’s heavier than it was at the equinox, and lighter than it will be by autumn.
More soon. Watch the water.
The journal is public. But some pages are kept apart — early whispers, hidden coordinates, messages the forest shares only with those who’ve left their name at the door.
No spam. Only signal. You can leave the threshold anytime.
The door knows your name now.
Watch for the first whisper.
